About us

North Island College (NIC) is honoured to acknowledge the traditional territories of the combined 35 First Nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish traditions, on whose traditional and unceded territories the college’s campuses are situated.

North Island College is a comprehensive community college that focuses on student success. NIC proudly serves more than 9,000 students annually at four campuses, a learning centre and through online and in-community learning. NIC is distinguished by their commitment to student success through strong partnership agreements with universities and colleges across BC, the US and around the world. NIC has been internationally recognized for its technology-enabled distance learning and responsive in-community programs. 

Why North Island College - Port Alberni  

  • Campus & Facilities: NIC- Port Alberni is located in Port Alberni, on British Columbia's Vancouver Island. Facilities include a bookstore and library. The campus is also home to the Culinary Arts Building, the location of the Roger Street Bistro.  
  • Accessibility: The Port Alberni campus is easy to access off Roger Street. The Tebo Vocational Centre can be accessed off Highway 4. Both locations can be accessed via BC Transit. Students can also walk between the two locations via the Scott Kenny Trail.
  • Location: Port Alberni is a deep port city which lies within the Alberni Valley at the head of the Alberni Inlet, Vancouver Island's longest inlet. To get to Port Alberni, students take a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and then travel by vehicle (bus, car) to Port Alberni.
