Adler University - Vancouver

About us

Adler University is named for Alfred Adler (1870-1937), a physician, psychotherapist, and founder of Adlerian psychology, sometimes called individual psychology. He is considered the first community psychologist, because his work pioneered attention to community life, prevention, and population health. Adlerian psychology emphasizes the human need and ability to create positive social change and impact. Adler’s values and concepts drive the mission, work, and values at the Adler University today.

Adler University first opened in 1952 in Chicago, before opening their Vancouver Campus in 2005. In addition to education and training in psychological theory, science, and practice, students complete a range of required and elective experiences that extend beyond traditional practitioner training. The University’s mission-driven curricula have earned national and international recognition. As the oldest independent psychology school in North America, Adler University continues the pioneering work of Alfred Adler by graduating socially responsible practitioners, engaging communities, and advancing social justice.

Why Adler University - Vancouver

  • Campus: The Adler University campus is located in the downtown area of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In February 2017, Adler University moved into a brand new facility in downtown Vancouver. This beautiful facility is walking distance to all modes of public transportation, as well as housing options, museums and cultural experiences.

  • Facilities: Class sizes are small with an average of 11 students per class. This makes for an inclusive and collaborative environment. Adler University is located in a modern building with many windows providing lots of natural light. The school has conference rooms, an art therapy studio, a student kitchen, and a learning commons that doubles as a study space and a library. The welcoming environment ensures that international students are submerged into all aspects of campus life.
  • Hands-on experience: Students are required to participate in practical learning experiences as part of their education. There are benefits of attending a school of psychology in a major metropolitan area. One benefit is the diversity provided by area residents. Students can experience this diversity not only in their personal lives, but also in the large range of practicum sites.
  • Social Justice Mission: Adler University's education and training prepares students to be socially responsible practitioners who engage communities and advance social justice, during both their course of study and their later professional lives.
  • Location: Canada is a friendly, safe country with a high standard of living. The Global Peace Index ranks Canada among its top 10 safest countries in the world to visit. With world-class cities, great student health benefits, low crime rates, a culture of tolerance and diversity, and vast wilderness, Canada is a natural destination for thousands of international students.
