Description

As an Occupational Therapist Assistant or Physiotherapist Assistant, students will provide assistance to Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and clients in a variety of health care settings such as; hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, public and private clinics, mental health facilities, and home care programs.

Students in the Occupational and Physical Therapist Assistant Diploma (OPTA) program are dual-trained in both occupational and physical therapy areas. Graduates work as therapy assistants, under the direction of a therapist who makes the treatment plans and assigns duties. Therapy assistants help to improve their clients’ physical health, mental health, ability to do day-to-day tasks, and quality of life.

The Occupational and Physical Therapist Assistant Program at is seeking accreditation by the Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant Education Accreditation Program (OTA & PTA EAP) of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada.  The program has been granted Candidacy Status, which denotes an affiliation with the OTA & PTA EAP and is a pre-requisite for accreditation of the education program. Candidacy Status does not assure that the program will be granted accreditation status once the program undergoes a full accreditation review.

Exams

English Proficiency Requirements:

For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:

  • Min TOEFL iBT: 92
  • Min IELTS overall: 7 (Min Reading: 6.5, Min Writing: 6.5, Min Listening: 6.5, Min Speaking: 6.5)

NOTE: Applicants interested in applying for direct admission, but are yet to complete an acceptable language test, can do so, but must provide valid results before receiving a final offer letter.

For conditional admission, instead of submitting language proficiency test scores, applicant may complete English courses prior to the academic program. The length of the English course is determined based on the applicant's level of English proficiency.
