About us

Coast Mountain College (previously known as Northwest Community College), is a publicly funded, government accredited, public post-secondary educational institution. Founded in 1975, the College serves eleven communities in the spectacularly beautiful Northwestern region of British Columbia, Canada. It is a student-centered college offering a full range of academic degree, diploma, and certificate programs in Arts, Business, Health, Science, and University Credits Arts and Science for international students, all of which provide excellent exposure to Canadian life and culture.

In as little as two years, students can complete an Associate Degree in Arts or Science. For those who wish to continue their studies, all Associate Degree courses are equivalent to university courses and can be transferred to other post-secondary institutions. Business Administration one-year certificate and two-year diploma programs offer a well-rounded business education and a solid background for a wide range of professional career choices and further educational opportunities. The Applied Coastal Ecology program delivers the applied biological & ecological skills needed to work in coastal ecosystems. With many options of programs, Coast Mountain College provides quality learning experiences that help prepare students for successful, positive futures.

The school's main campus is in Terrace, which is a small town with a population of approximately 20,000 and is located in the famous Skeena Valley in the Coast Mountain Range. Terrace is the geographic centre for the region's natural transportation corridors and acts as a regional centre for many services. Two major shopping malls, multiple restaurants and community recreational facilities are all found within the downtown core. Indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities abound, including skiing, swimming, skating, hiking, and organized sports. Many forms of cultural activities take place throughout the year and involve a Music Festival, a B.C. Day celebration called Riverboat Days, community band performances, little theatre and First Nations events.
