Description

The Department of Physics offers graduate programs of study and research leading to an M.S. degree in physics and Ph.D. degrees in physics and in applied physics. Students may specialize in any of the areas of interest to the faculty, including: 

  • condensed matter physics,
  • material physics,
  • laser physics,
  • optics,
  • biophysics, and
  • computational physics.

 

In addition, many of the physics faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary research programs with other faculty including those from medical and engineering departments on the UAB campus and at other universities. Several faculty have on-going research collaborations and/or utilize the facilities at national laboratories including Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory as well as with industrial companies.
