Through TROY’s Master of Science in Second Language Instruction (SLI), you can further utilize your baccalaureate degree in English, sociology, education, psychology, journalism, linguistics or any language-related discipline to help prepare others to teach secondary languages around the world.

Because of this, individuals working in the areas of trade, tourism, media and science are discovering the need to learn a second language as the world continues building its global market place. TROY’s SLI program is a 31- to 33-hour program with a focus on preparing domestic and international students for future careers in second language teaching.

Whether you’re interested in traveling the world instructing others who wish to learn English as a second language or teaching other world languages to non-native speakers, our skilled faculty is excited to help you develop the professional skills and academic competencies required for second language instruction.

Whether you choose to pursue this degree through its thesis or non-thesis track, either option can be taken in class at our Troy Campus or online. Our online program provides students around the world the opportunity to learn how to teach English as a second language within the international market. Once you’ve graduated from this non-certification program, you’ll be prepared to help your future students understand how languages are structured and acquired as well as how to learn a language that is completely foreign.
