Open the door to an exciting career in diverse settings! Concordia University of Edmonton’s 15-month Environmental Health (After Degree) allows you to enter careers in provincial and federal government, private industry, and as consultants.

In the program, students take science (health, social, and physical), ethics, and environmental health legislation courses, and benefit from a 12-week field placement. Please note that ENVH561 (Field Experience in Public Health Inspection) is not available to international students.

You will analyze case studies that focus on employer needs and the changing field. Upon completion of this program, you will be well-versed in topics related to the health of communities as a whole.

What is Environmental Health?

Environmental Health is the practice protecting public health by applying relevant provincial legislation and providing supports to mitigating the physical, chemical, and biological risks found in the natural and man-made environment.

Environmental Health professionals are focused on prevention, consultation, investigation, communicable disease control and health promotion activities aimed at ensuring safe and healthy:

  • Water supplies
  • Food establishments
  • Personal service facilities
  • Swimming pools and recreational water
  • Housing: rental swellings, long term care and childcare facilities.
