Level | Bachelor |
Looking at the global events industry, marketing and management principles, this course teaches students how to plan, develop and market events to a range of audiences. Through a dynamic programme of academic study, real life scenarios and professional skills development students will gain essential knowledge in the theory and application of these techniques.
Event Management requires many different skills and students will cover a wide range of approaches to the subject. From the initial planning to on-the-day delivery, they'll build the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver successful events. Students will learn to manage different types of events, how to design events, how to manage people, how to promote their event through marketing expertise, and how to build their own events business. They will also investigate how events can contribute to the growth and regeneration of their host regions and consider the responsibilities businesses have to the wider community.
Students will be prepared for their chosen career by hosting guest lectures from industry specialists, taking them on site visits and by giving them a chance to work on live briefs. At YSJ they understand the need for students to develop their own personal brand identity, so they will work with them to enhance their career potential on areas such as creating a strong digital CV.
York is a great setting to gain experience of event management. Events like the Ebor Festival, the Tour de Yorkshire, Aesthetica Short Film Festival, The Yorkshire Fringe and The Great Yorkshire Show are right on the doorstep. YSJ has partnerships with organisations throughout the city and the region and they will have plenty of opportunities to put what they learn into practice and gain real industry experience.
Special features
Year in Industry
All of YSJ's business students have the option of adding in a year in industry and / or a semester of studying abroad with one of their partners to the course. A year in industry gives students fantastic experience and is attractive to potential employers. This normally takes place after the second year of the course and extends the course duration by one year (15% of the standard tuition fee is chargeable). Study Abroad normally takes place for a semester of the second year of the course and doesn’t extend the course duration as credits achieved abroad count towards the degree.
Students don’t need to decide whether they would like to take either of these options until after they have started the course.
