Study of structure and use of language while learning Chinese. This four-year degree includes a year in China after your second year of study. You'll learn communicative Chinese skills and a deep understanding of Chinese culture. If you want to choose from a range of English language and linguistics modules, this course will suit you. Investigate how we convey meaning and how language can vary according to speaker and situation.

This programme allows you to study Chinese from beginners level. By the end of the programme, you'll have gained the ability to have conversations and discussions in Chinese. You'll be able to give presentations and write coherently. Successful students will be able to use Chinese for academic, social and professional purposes, reaching upper B2/C1 level on the JF standard for language education.

The English Language and Linguistics part of the programme gives you a working knowledge of linguistics, how we use language and how it's structured. There are several optional modules on the programme which explore linguistics. Some study the way we articulate speech while others explore how English differs around the world. Others examine how language is processed in the mind.

Immerse yourself in Chinese culture with a year studying abroad in China. You'll spend your third year taking Chinese language and other relevant classes at your host university. You'll also take a distance-learning work placement module while you study abroad.
