Description

Students in a combined degrees program work on two complimentary university degrees simultaneously. A combined degree is generally a 50-course program during which students complete the requirements for both degrees at the same time. When the student graduates, they will be awarded two bachelor degrees, one for each area of study. The bonus is that you complete a combined degrees program in less time than it would take to complete both degrees individually.

Bachelor of Science - Geography

Geography deals with the diverse landscapes around us. It is about everything from the original formation of the earth’s surface, to the effects we have on our environment: past, present and future.

The primary focus of the program is to give you the skills necessary to analyze the organization and interaction of all creatures and ecological processes on the planet — and sometimes beyond it — to address real-world issues.

The department is particularly strong in the areas of geographical information science (GIS) and remote sensing, water research and rural & urban studies; areas of spectacular growth in research, teaching and employment for our graduates.

You'll have access to the latest hardware and software available in geography, economics, environment, agriculture, ecology, planning etc, as well as state-of-the-art facilities like the Alberta Water and Environmental Science Building. This facility provides the infrastructure to support the research interests of our award-winning faculty, your instructors, as they investigate diverse areas such as: weather and climate, water, glaciers, sediments, plants and insects.

Situated in the Oldman River Valley, the University’s location offers an excellent centre for field research, surrounded by farm and rangelands, and in easy reach of the Rockies and the city of Calgary.

Bachelor of Education - Science Education

The Department of Biological Sciences provides you with a great deal of hands-on learning and engaging research, moving you beyond text books and lectures. Chemistry is often called the Central Science as it deals specifically with the 110 elements that comprise all matter. The air we breathe, water we drink, food we eat, buildings we live in, cars we drive - our very bodies - are all made from these elements.Chemists pursue the study of matter down to the level of individual atoms, and, in particular, focus on molecules, which are aggregates of elements that act as larger units. Physics is the fundamental science. All other sciences and technologies rely on the principles of physics, by applying them to their systems of interest and/or by using technology based on them.

As an Education major a student develops a strong knowledge base in the subject area they intend to teach. They also receive in-depth preparation in how to teach, including both general and subject area instructional methods.
