This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the Durham University International Study Centre located at Queen's Campus, in Stockton on Tees. In an international foundation year students will study courses related to their intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance their skills as a student. This International Foundation Year provides the subject knowledge, language proficiency and study skills students need to progress to degree study at the Durham University, Durham City campus in a range of subjects related to the humanities, law or social sciences.
After completing this pathway, students will transfer into the BA Music program. The course at Durham prides itself in combining the traditional and the modern in the study of music. The learning of techniques such as harmony, counterpoint and aural skills are juxtaposed with an investigation of the most up-to-date thinking in musicology, critical theory, composition (acoustic and electroacoustic), analysis, ethnomusicology and performance. Moreover, our teaching, essentially research-led, is enhanced by distinctive staff specialisations that include nineteenth- and twentieth-century British music, music of the Soviet Union, Korean and Indian music, popular music, music technology, conducting, cognitive musicology, early music and contemporary composition
