Description

UNBC’s Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Civil Engineering features all aspects of civil engineering with a focus on engineering for northern climates, and wood and wood hybrid designs for sustainable development.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Strong emphasis is placed on basic sciences and environmental issues during the first two years
  • Business skills training
  • Specialized instruction in structures, renewable energy technology, cold climate, and geotechnical engineering
  • Learn to design the infrastructure essential to modern society, such as buildings, bridges, highways, transit systems, water and waste treatment facilities, foundations, tunnels, and dams
  • Analyze the effects of deterioration on infrastructure elements while considering system interdependencies and life-cycle impacts

In addition, environmentally responsible development is reinforced as the civil and environmental engineering degrees have a similar first year, allowing students some latitude to change their selected major. In second year, a number of courses are common in all of the engineering degrees but program requirements start to differentiate between the Civil and Environmental Engineering degrees. In the remaining years, some of the courses are common to both programs while each degree develops the in-depth knowledge to allow students to qualify within their discipline upon graduation. The final year exposes students to practical engineering problems.
