Students in a combined degrees program work on two complimentary university degrees simultaneously. A combined degree is generally a 50-course program during which students complete the requirements for both degrees at the same time. When the student graduates, they will be awarded two bachelor degrees, one for each area of study. The bonus is that you complete a combined degrees program in less time than it would take to complete both degrees individually.
Bachelor of Education - Music Education
The Music Department at the University of Lethbridge is committed to the development of its students as fully rounded musicians. Students are provided with thorough training on their chosen instrument are strengthened by a carefully integrated stream of courses in music theory, history, literature and ear training, as well as participation in performing ensembles, including Wind Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and choirs.
As an Education major students develops a strong knowledge base in the subject area they intend to teach. They also receive in-depth preparation in how to teach, including both general and subject area instructional methods.
Students interested in teaching elementary school are encouraged to pursue the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education degree. The flexibility of this stream will allow students to gain a diversified set of qualifications which will better meet the needs of multi-subject teaching common in elementary schools.
Bachelor of Arts - Music
Pursue music with our classical conservatory driven program where you combine your passion for music as you build your program around your diverse interests.
The major in Music is a broad, general program of study. As a student you complete a core of required music courses and then can choose electives based on your areas of interest. You can choose to focus on scholarly and written work without requiring a high level of musical performance skills, although a degree of facility on an instrument is recommended. You may also choose to pursue a performance focus which is supported by theory and history courses.
