Description

The Addictions Counselling program prepares students for practice based in sound theory and research evidence. Students enrolled in the program draw upon the latest research literature, clinical experience, and an understanding of the client's perspective. The program provides students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for an effective and compassionate role in treatment, prevention, and health promotion wherever addiction, or the potential for addiction, affects people's lives. It focuses on a range of addictive behaviours and intervention strategies, including substance abuse, problem gambling, and sexual or eating disorders. The program includes a thorough study of current issues in addictions, and an intensive training in counselling skills. Students may pursue an Addictions Counselling major in the Bachelor of Health Sciences via two routes: Bachelor of Health Sciences and Post-Diploma Bachelor of Health Sciences.
