The M.A. Counselling Psychology program provides a quality learning experience for those seeking employment in counselling and related fields. Graduates are well prepared to pursue doctoral studies in counselling or clinical psychology and to work professionally in a variety of settings. It is fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counsellor Education Programs CACEP. 

With a wide range of counselling approaches and research interests, faculty are distinguished by recognized scholarship and clinical expertise. Full-time faculty have earned doctorates in Counselling Psychology or a related field. They are licensed psychologists or therapists, who are active in research, publication, and professional advocacy.

Core program objectives:

  • To cultivate competent professional counsellors with a vision to address human suffering and promote human flourishing.
  • To promote engagement between scholarship and practice in a faith context.
  • To encourage personal and spiritual growth.
  • To foster the development of community awareness and commitment to social justice.
  • To actively cultivate multicultural and international dialogue among helping professionals.
  • To promote scholarship, research, and publication.
  • To prepare students for doctoral studies.

Non-thesis track:

  • Career options include counselling in areas of mental health, family and child therapy, child protection, psychotherapy, sexual abuse, addictions, multiculturalism, family domestic violence, career and vocational counselling.

Note: The Master of Arts - Counselling Psychology is very competitive and strict on all requirements. Those accepted typically exceed the minimum requirements and have strong backgrounds.

For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:

  • Min TOEFL iBT: 105
  • Min IELTS overall: 7.5 (Min Reading: 7.5, Min Writing: 7.5, Min Listening: 7.5, Min Speaking: 7.5)
  • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 125

NOTE: Applicants interested in applying for direct admission, but are yet to complete an acceptable language test, can do so, but must provide valid results before receiving a final offer letter.
