Program Description
Our full-time program is the academic English language pathway into Mount Royal University. Successful completion of Academic English 3 meets the MRU English language proficiency requirement for entry into MRU credit programs without an English proficiency exam. Academic English preparation is equivalent to IELTS 4.5 to IELTS 6.5 and above.
Program Format:
- 11 weeks per semester
- Monday to Friday
- 26.5 hours of instruction per week
- Placement testing

Foundational English
- Foundational English 1 (IELTS 4.0 exit) High Beginner
- Foundational English 2 (IELTS 4.5 exit) Low Intermediate
- Foundational English 3 (IELTS 5.0 exit) Intermediate
Academic English
- Academic English (IELTS 5.5 exit) High Intermediate
- Academic English (IELTS 6.0 exit) Low Advanced
- Academic English (IELTS 6.5 exit) Advanced
