Description

the Associate of Arts in Political Science is a first step toward a career as a lawyer, journalist, teacher, lobbyist and more. Political science explores political systems and how they evolve, compete and interact. It examines how those systems affect us and vice versa, and how politics affect the daily lives of citizens at the local, national and international levels. In this program, students will explore how countries around the world are governed, and gain insight into Canada’s role on the global stage. They will develop critical-thinking and research skills through discussion and analysis of everything from history, to journalism, to economics, to political ideologies. Students will also examine political controversies that raise ethical issues in the public life and political choices of public officials.

An Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science can lead to a Political Science Major or Minor Bachelor of Arts Degree program at a university. Many universities prefer candidates with an Associate Degree and will accept students at a lower grade point average. In most cases, this degree will allow students to transfer to the third year of a four-year bachelor’s degree program at other universities.

Students enrolled in this program may be eligible for a Co-operative Education designation. Co-operative Education involves alternating full-time academic and work terms. For information contact the Co-operative Education Office.
